James Howard Kunstler is the author of The Long Emergency: Surviving the Catastrophes of the 21st Century, and the post-oil novel World Made By Hand -- both from the Atlantic Monthly Press. He has published three books on the fiasco of suburbia, urban design, and architecture: The Geography of Nowhere, Home From Nowhere, and The City in Mind -- all Simon & Schuster.. He has also published nine other novels. He was a newspaper reporter and then an editor at Rolling Stone Magazine in the 1970s. His articles have been published in the New York Times Sunday Magazine, the Atlantic Monthly, and many other magazines. His op-eds have appeared in the Times and the Washington Post. He lives in upstate New York.
