Chuck Watson is a specialist in the application of satellite remote sensing and computer models to natural and human hazards. He has published over 70 articles and papers in the fields of meteorology, engineering, computer science, satellite remote sensing, and emergency management. He is currently involved in several hurricane related projects, including improved real time hurricane damage forecasts and improving insurance models of hurricane damage, incorporating hurricane hazard data in the coastal planning process, and the potential impact of climate change on hurricane frequencies. Mr. Watson's academic background includes a BS in Electrical Engineering with minors in geophysics and computer engineering from the University of Maryland. In addition to hurricane related work, Mr. Watson has been involved in other natural hazard studies including tsunami and earthquake research, environmental impact assessments, and studies relating to the impact of terrorist attacks and weapons of mass destruction.
His clients include the states of North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and Hawai'i, Federal agencies such as the Department of Defense, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and US Agency for International Development (USAID), and international organizations such as the Organization of American States (OAS), World Bank, and United Nations. He lives in Savannah, Georgia with his wife (who is also a scientist and teacher), and way too many cats.
